2026 European Union Blue Book Traineeship Programm
This five-month paid traineeship provides graduates with:
- Hands-on experience in EU policymaking and administration
- Professional skills for a global career
- Intercultural awareness and personal growth
Trainees work in a multicultural environment, develop professional skills, and gain insights into the operations of the European Commission and its executive agencies, decentralised agencies or other bodies, and European External Action Service.
The European Commission proposes two types of traineeships: Administrative traineeship (ADMIN) and Translation traineeship with the Directorate-General for Translation (DGT).
Administrative traineeship (ADMIN)
- A traineeship providing hands-on experience in managing office operations, supporting organizational functions, and performing various administrative tasks.
Translation traineeship (DGT)
- A traineeship providing hands-on experience in translating documents into the trainee's native language from at least two official EU languages.

Aim and Benefits of European Union Blue Book Traineeship Programme
During the traineeship, you will gain practical experience through direct involvement in the work of the European Commission, its agencies or other bodies.

The nature of your work will depend on the service you are assigned to.
Requirements for European Union Blue Book Traineeship Programme Qualification
Nationality
- The programme is open to all eligible candidates from the Member States of the European Union. A limited number of places are also allocated to non-EU nationals in specific Directorates-General or Services.
Where trainees are placed
- Most of the trainees are placed in the Commission departments and in its executive agencies. Places are also allocated to other services and decentralised agencies such as EEAS, EDPS, CAJU, EEA, EFCA, FRONTEX, SESAR, SRB, EU-RAIL. Subsequent career opportunities may vary between these different entities.
- Scientific traineeships are also available at the European Commission's Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Location
- Trainees work all over the European Commission, its services and agencies, mostly in Brussels, but also in Luxembourg and elsewhere across the European Union.
