ABU announces Free Eye Health outreach as part of the 45th Convocation ceremony
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has announced a free eye health outreach programme for members of its university community as part of activities marking the institutionβs 45th Convocation Ceremony.
According to a Special Bulletin issued on Monday, 26 January 2026, the outreach will be conducted by the Al-Ama Foundation and is scheduled to run from Thursday, 29 January to Saturday, 31 January 2026, daily between 8:00am and 5:00pm.
The bulletin stated that the programme will take place at different locations within the university. From Thursday, 29 January to Friday, 30 January 2026, the medical outreach will be held at the Senate Building Main Entrance, while activities on Saturday, 31 January 2026, will take place at the ABU Medical Centre (Sickbay).
The outreach is aimed at providing a range of eye care services, including cataract screening and surgery, provision of reading glasses, consultation, and basic optical support services. Beneficiaries include students, staff, alumni, dignitaries, and visitors attending the convocation ceremony.
University management explained that the initiative is designed to improve awareness of eye health, encourage early detection of common vision problems, and support preventive healthcare within the university community.
Management has therefore urged staff and students to take full advantage of the exercise, noting that the outreach will be handled by qualified eye health professionals and support personnel.
