The Welfare and Price Regulation Committee of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) at Ahmadu Bello University has responded to growing concerns over the recent increase in the price of sachet (pure) water across the Samaru Campus.

In a press release dated March 31, 2026, the committee acknowledged the hardship the price hike poses to students, especially amid prevailing economic challenges. The statement assured students that the issue is being treated with urgency and seriousness.

According to the committee, immediate steps have been taken to engage key stakeholders, including pure water producers and vendors, with the aim of addressing the situation. A special meeting has also been scheduled to facilitate dialogue, promote price standardization, and ensure that students’ welfare is protected while considering the sustainability of the businesses involved.

The committee further reassured students that efforts are ongoing to reach a fair and balanced resolution that benefits all parties. Students were urged to remain calm, patient, and law-abiding as discussions continue.

The SRC emphasized its commitment to safeguarding students’ interests and promised to provide further updates as developments unfold.
