AKSU announces vacancies for the posts of Registrar, Bursar & Librarian

The Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University has declared vacancies in the following positions: ​Registrar, ​Bursar and ​University Librarian

​The positions will be filled in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11 of 1993 the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Amendment Act 2012 and the Akwa Ibom State University Law. Interested candidates who meet the requisite qualifications and experience as specified below are invited to apply.

​1. REGISTRAR

​(a) Job Description

The Registrar shall be the Chief Administrative Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration of the University, except in financial matters where the Bursar is responsible. He shall be the Secretary to the Governing Council, Senate, Congregation and the Convocation.

​(b) The Candidate

The candidate must be a team player with good leadership qualities to inspire and motivate a crop of administrative officers. He/she must command respect, be ready to instill confidence and relate well with subordinates. The candidate must have high integrity, innovativeness and moral standard in tandem with the vision and mission of Akwa Ibom State University and must be ICT (Information and Communication Technology) compliant.

​(c) Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this post must:

(i) possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) as well as WASC, SSC (WAEC or NECO), GCE or equivalent qualification with Credit Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language.

(ii) possess a good honour degree not below Second Class from a recognized University, with at least 18 (eighteen) years cognate experience, preferably in a university or other institutions of higher learning. Acquisition of a higher degree will be an advantage.

(iii) be a member of a recognized professional management body such as: NIM, CIPM, ANUPA and should possess proven records of sound administrative leadership;

(iv) not be below the rank of a Director of Administration OR Deputy Registrar with four (4) years experience.

​(d) Tenure

The tenure of the Registrar as a Principal Officer of the University is a single five (5) year term.

​(e) Salary and Conditions of Service

The successful candidate will be placed on consolidated salary for Registrars and will equally enjoy all the allowances normally attached to the position of Principal Officers in Nigerian Universities as well as other benefits as may be approved by the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University.

​2. BURSAR

​(a) Job Description

The Bursar shall be the Chief Financial Officer of the University. He/she is responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the day-to-day administration and control of the financial affairs of the University.

​(b) The Candidate

(i) The candidate for the post must exhibit a considerable degree of competence, responsiveness, demonstrable integrity and transparency on matters of financial and human resource management. He/she must be ICT compliant and must be conversant with current trends in financial reporting.

(ii) The prospective candidate must show innovative approaches to the running of an ICT-driven Bursary, working at the highest level of efficiency to eliminate delays and bureaucratic bottlenecks.

(iii) The candidate shall be required to possess the ability to advise the Vice-Chancellor in planning and executing strategies for enhancing internal revenue generation as well as promoting the culture of "doing more with less".

(iv) In addition, the candidate is required to write in not more than five hundred (500) words his/her proposal for fund generation and management for the University.

​(c) Qualifications and Experience

Candidate must:

(i) possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) as well as WASC, SSC (WAEC or NECO), GCE or equivalent qualification with Credit Passes in a minimum of Five (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics;

(ii) possess a good honours degree not below Second Class in Accounting, Economics, Finance or Business Management from a recognized University;

(iii) In addition, the candidate must be a member of any of the following professional Accounting bodies: ICAN, ANAN. Possession of MBA or any relevant higher degree will be an advantage;

(iv) the applicant should have at least twelve (12) years post-qualification cognate experience and must have been a Deputy Bursar for at least four years, preferably in a University or similar institution.

​(d) Tenure

The tenure of the Bursar as a Principal Officer of the University is a single term of five (5) years.

​(e) Salary and Conditions of Service

The successful applicant will be placed on the consolidated salary for Bursars and will enjoy all the allowances attached to the position of Principal Officers in Universities in Nigeria as well as other benefits as may be approved by the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University.

​3. UNIVERSITY LIBRARIAN

​(a) Job Description

The University Librarian shall be a Principal Officer of the University. He/she shall also be the administrative and academic Head of the University Library. He/she shall be responsible to the Vice-Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and the coordination of all library services in the University and its Campuses, Colleges, Schools, Faculties, Departments, Institutes and other teaching and research units of the University.

​(b) The Candidate

The ideal candidate must be able to steer the University Library towards growth and development as well as its vision of meeting the demands of students, staff and community by ensuring:

i. an effective and efficient library system;

ii. a highly commendable e-library service complemented with traditional library services;

iii. adequate programmes that promote information and critical literacy;

iv. an effective coordination of University Library Units in faculties, department and centres.

The candidate must be a person with a high degree of integrity and moral discipline and should be endowed with creativity and innovation.

​(c) Qualifications and Experience

Candidates for this post must:

(i) possess the basic qualification of First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) as well as WASC, SSC (WAEC or NECO), GCE or equivalent qualification with Credit Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects including English Language;

(ii) be professionally qualified and a practising librarian;

(iii) possess a good honours degree not below Second Class in Library Science from a recognized University, plus a higher degree (preferably a Ph.D) with at least 15 (fifteen) years relevant experience, preferably in a University or other institutions of higher learning;

(iv) have contributed to knowledge through research and publications in reputable journals, as well as possess proven records of sound administrative leadership;

(v) not be below the rank of a Deputy Librarian with at least 4 (four) years experience;

(vi) be highly resourceful and versatile in the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Computer-based cataloging and e-library literacy.

​(d) Tenure

The tenure of the University Librarian, as a Principal Officer of the University is a single 5 (five) year term.

​(e) Salary and Conditions of Service

The successful candidate will be placed on CONUASS 7 with relevant fringe benefits and will equally enjoy he allowances normally attached to the position of Principal Officers in Nigerian Universities as well as other benefits as may be approved by the Governing Council of Akwa Ibom State University.
