The Students’ Affairs Division of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU) has issued a directive mandating all Faculties and Departmental Students’ Associations to conduct fresh elections for the 2025/2026 academic session on or before January 31, 2026.

The notice, signed by the Vice Dean of Students’ Affairs, Dr. Stephen Umoh, emphasizes that newly elected executive members must be sworn in ahead of the new academic session. The university explained that the policy will now be upheld as a standard tradition to ensure proper alignment of all students’ electoral and leadership activities with the academic calendar.

According to the directive, any Faculty or Department that fails to conduct elections within the stipulated deadline will have a caretaker committee constituted by the Students’ Affairs Division, in collaboration with the respective Deans and Heads of Departments. This committee will oversee leadership duties until the next academic dispensation.

The Students’ Affairs Division also cautioned all student association executives to strictly comply with the directive to avoid penalties, including possible disenfranchisement.
