AKSU SUG responds to allegations of institutional fee adjustments

The Office of the Chief of Staff, Students' Union Government (SUG), Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU), has issued an official press release to formally repudiate inaccuracies, clarify institutional realities, and reassure the student body following a recent publication by Enoobong Okon.

​The SUG expressed concern over the publication, which is currently in circulation and directly imputes personal intent, neglect, and alleged insensitivity to student leadership concerning the recent institutional fee adjustments.

​The SUG clarifies that decisions concerning fee reviews at Akwa Ibom State University are derived from established administrative, statutory, and regulatory frameworks.

​Such decisions are influenced by operational exigencies, compliance obligations, and institutional sustainability.

​The SUG emphasizes that no student, official, or student union possesses unilateral authority to determine, increase, or implement institutional fees.

​The release stresses that representations portraying these decisions as outcomes of individual comfort, conscience, or indifference are not only misleading but constitute a distortion of the governance architecture of the University.

​The Students' Union Government fully acknowledges the prevailing economic pressures affecting students and recognizes that fee-related matters naturally provoke anxiety.

​These concerns are legitimate and have neither been ignored nor trivialized by the Union.

​The Union remains actively engaged through formal dialogue, documented representations, and continuous advocacy aimed at moderation, transparency, and the protection of student interests.

​Students are reassured that AKSU does not act against its students. Institutional actions are executed within due process, balancing academic access with operational viability. The Students' Union Government remains resolute in scrutinizing these processes to ensure that student welfare remains central to all deliberations.

​While the Union recognizes the historical role of individuals who have contributed to the student journey through public commentary, such commentary must remain responsible, factual, and constructive.

​The SUG insists that criticism grounded in accuracy is welcome; conjecture, emotive distortion, and insinuation are not.
