Akwa Poly SUG announces the approval of Summer Exam for final year students

This is to inform the entire student community that the proposal on the “Introduction of Summer Examinations for Final-Year Students with Outstanding Courses” has been officially passed and approved by the Academic Board at its meeting held on Monday, 30th March, 2026.

‎This motion was raised during the 3rd Plenary Sitting of the 11th Legislative Council by Hon. Itoro Umoh, Member representing the Biological Sciences Students’ Association (BIOSSA), and seconded by Hon. Edidiong Archibong, Member representing the Essien Udim Students’ Association.

‎Notably, the approval goes beyond the initial proposal, as it now accommodates students with up to 3–4 outstanding courses, creating a broader opportunity for affected students.

‎This means:‎

‎• No more payment of fees for an extra academic year due to a few outstanding courses

‎• No more waiting for an entire session to retake exams

‎• Students can now retake their courses and graduate alongside their mates

‎This is a major step forward for student welfare and academic progression.

‎‎This is exactly why the 11th Legislative Council exists, to speak for the students, represent their interests, and contribute meaningfully to their growth. Today, we can confidently say that we have truly spoken for the students, and our voices have been heard.

‎‎While we celebrate this development, students are urged to remain calm and await further official guidelines on the implementation of the Summer Examination framework.

‎‎At the same time, this opportunity must not be abused. Students are encouraged to remain focused and take their studies seriously, and not become dependent on summer examinations as a fallback option.
