Al-Hikmah University announces vacancy for the post of Bursar

Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Kwara State, has announced a vacancy for the position of Bursar, as the current tenure will lapse on 15 March 2026.

The vacancy is in line with the provisions of the Al-Hikmah University Law, 2001 (as amended). The Council has therefore invited applications from suitably qualified, experienced, and highly competent professionals to fill the position.

About the University

Al-Hikmah University was licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in January 2005 as a faith-based private university with a strong Islamic content. The institution is committed to high academic standards and moral excellence at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The University currently operates nine faculties, including Humanities and Social Sciences, Management Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Basic Medical Sciences, Education, Law, Agriculture, Nursing Sciences, Computing, Engineering and Technology, as well as a College of Health Sciences and a Postgraduate School, with a student population of about 13,000.

Duties of the Bursar

The Bursar is the Chief Financial Officer of the University and shall be responsible to the Council and the Vice-Chancellor for the management of the University’s finances. Key responsibilities include:

Driving aggressive, internally generated revenue for the University.

Planning, organizing, directing, coordinating, and controlling the financial system of the University.

Performing other duties as may be assigned by the Council or Vice-Chancellor.

Advising and supporting the institution on all financial transactions.

Demonstrating proficiency in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants for the position must:

Possess a good first degree in Accounting or related disciplines from a recognized institution, plus relevant professional qualifications such as ICAN, ACA, ACCA, ACMA, or CPA.

Hold a relevant Master’s degree from a recognized institution of higher learning.

Be a member of a recognized professional accounting body.

Have a minimum of 12 years post-qualification experience, including at least eight years in the university system, with not less than five years in a top leadership position.

Have served as Deputy Bursar for at least three years.

Show evidence of continuous mandatory professional development.

Possess impeccable character, integrity, transparency, accountability, and strong managerial ability.

Not be above 48 years of age at the time of assumption of duty.

Terms and Conditions of Service

The Bursar shall hold office for a single term of five (5) years only, subject to the terms and conditions stated in the letter of appointment. The remuneration and other conditions of service are attractive and comparable to those obtainable in most Nigerian universities, as determined by the Governing Council from time to time.

A statement of vision and mission for the University Bursary and the University in the next five years (between 750 and 1,000 words)

Candidates should also request their referees to submit confidential reports on their character, academic, and managerial abilities to the same email address within the stipulated period.
