ASUU raises concern over January 18 resumption date

The chairmen of various chapters of the acadamic staff union of universities (ASUU), in various institutions have expressed concern over the slated date for resumption of academic activities in Nigerian universities, stating that it is not feasible.

According to the union, the over crowdiness of classrooms and hostels would make adherance to the  laid down COVID-19 protocols impossible.

This comes after the NUC had directed universities to reopen, with a strong warning that school administrators must ensure strict adherence to all COVID19 protocols, which include sanitizing, wearing of facemasks as well as social distancing.

Reacting to the resumption date, the chairman of the union at the Obafemi Awolowo University, Dr. Adeola Egbedokun, said no preparations have been made so far for the safe re-opening of the universities and urged parents to insist on safety before re-opening. While Dr Adebayo Oni, of  FUNAAB said reopening universities for physical lectures at a time when the country is experiencing the second wave of the pandemic which has been described as deadlier, is disastrous.
