This is contained in a communiqué signed by the Chairman of the committee, Prof. Kimse Okoko.

The communiqué issued at the end of the committee’ meeting to discuss the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and other issues affecting the Nigerian University System, “noted with satisfaction the outcome of the referendum conducted in all branches of ASUU nationwide which voted 60-40 in favour of the suspension of the ongoing ASUU strike.”

The communiqué stated that the committee's decision to call for the re-opening of the universities which was unanimously agreed upon by all Pro-chancellors is based on the outcome of ASUU vote and the negative effect of the strike on the university system, students , parents and the nation as a whole

It therefore, directed all Vice-Chancellors to comply with the committee's decision.
