ASUU to Meet Thursday About Strike Suspension
The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU will have an emergency meeting of its National Executive Council (NEC) in order to discuss recent events, particularly the favourable response from the federal government to its demands.
In preparation for the meeting at its headquarters in Abuja, the union has asked its zonal branches to collect membersβ views via voting during the meetings scheduled for tomorrow in its various zones across the country.
The meetingβs outcome would result in the cessation of the strike by late Thursday or early Friday morning.
This occurred after a post on social media earlier on Tuesday said that the union has called off the nearly 8-month-long strike and urged members to resume academic activities on October 17.

While responding to an inquiry, ASUU president Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke disputed the story, saying the strike has yet to be suspended.
He did, however, indicate that the union was working toward a suspension of the strike and that the suspension would be contingent on the views of members at zonal meetings.
The latest action of the lecturers union came following the intervention of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.
The Speaker had informed the ASUU president and other members on Monday that the strike would be suspended very soon, claiming his discussion with President Muhammadu Buhari about the unionβs action had been beneficial.
Earlier, Femi Falana, SAN, a human rights lawyer and ASUU counsel, claimed the union would end its nearly eight-month strike soon.
