ATBU approved academic calendar for 2025/2026 session

The Office of the Registrar of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi, has officially released the Senate-approved academic calendar for the 2025/2026 academic session. The schedule, approved at the Second Semester Senate Examination Meeting held on Monday, 17th November 2025, outlines key activities for both semesters.

First Semester (2025/2026)

The first semester activities commence with online registration for all students (100 to 500 Level) from Monday, 15th December 2025, to Monday, 5th January 2026.

· Resumption: Returning students (200–500 Level) are to resume on Monday, 5th January 2026, with lectures beginning the following day. Freshers (100 and 200 Level) resume a week later on Monday, 12th January 2026.

· Registration: Physical registration for returning students runs from 5th to 16th January, while freshers register from 12th to 16th January. A late registration window with a fine is scheduled for 19th to 23rd January.

· Key Events: The deferment window for the first semester opens on 6th January and closes on 3rd February 2026. The Matriculation ceremony for 100L students and subsequent Orientation will be held on dates to be announced by JAMB.

· Assessments: Continuous Assessment (CA) activities are slated for 23rd February to 3rd March 2026.

· Examinations: First-semester examinations will hold from Wednesday, 8th April, to Wednesday, 6th May 2026.

· Holidays: The calendar incorporates public holidays including Christmas, New Year, Eid El-Fitr (20th–23rd March), Good Friday/Easter (3rd–6th April), Workers’ Day (1st May), and Id el Kabir (27th–28th May).

Following exams and result processing, the first-semester break for students begins on Wednesday, 7th May, and lasts until Monday, 22nd June 2026.

Second Semester (2025/2026)

The second semester kicks off with the resumption of all students on Monday, 22nd June 2026.

· Registration & Lectures: Registration runs from 22nd to 26th June, with lectures commencing on Tuesday, 23rd June. A late registration period is set for 29th June to 2nd July.

· Deferment & Course Adjustment: The second-semester deferment window is open from 23rd June to 21st July. The Add & Drop period for courses is scheduled for 21st to 23rd July.

· Assessments: CA activities for the second semester are planned for 3rd to 14th August 2026.

· Examinations: Second-semester examinations begin on Monday, 14th September, and end on Monday, 12th October 2026.

· Holidays: The semester includes breaks for Id El Maulud (26th August) and Independence Day (1st October).

After examinations, the student holiday for the session commences on Tuesday, 13th October 2026, and extends until Tuesday, 29th December 2026.

Administrative Timeline

The calendar also details periods for result processing by Boards of Studies, Senate Business Committee (SBC) meetings, and Senate Examination Meetings in June and November 2026. The annual leave for academic staff is scheduled from Tuesday, 17th November, to Tuesday, 29th December 2026.
