BUK warns against external interference in the forth coming SUG elections
The Deanery of Student Affairs at Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has issued a stern warning against external interference in the forthcoming Studentsβ Union Government (SUG) elections.
In a circular dated December 27, 2025, and signed by the Dean, Professor Mukhtar Ridwanu Bunza, the university administration stated its "uncompromising" commitment to supervising free and fair elections exclusively for BUK students.
The Deanery explicitly stated that it "will not condone any external influence from the former excos, former students (the comrades), or any individual that is not currently a student of Bayero University, Kano."
Prospective candidates have been directed to solicit support only from the current student body. The circular warns that any association with external forces or influence could result in the disqualification of the involved candidate.
"Candidates and their supporters are hereby warned to abide by this instruction and respect all the constitutional provisions of the electoral process," the statement reads.
The move is seen as an effort by the university management to insulate the student electoral process from off-campus political influences and ensure the election reflects the will of the current student population.
