Bill to Establish University of Education at Bichi Passes 2nd Reading

The Senate has passed the second reading of a bill to establish the Federal University of Education (Technical) Bichi in Kano State.

In his opening statement, the bill’s sponsor, Senator Jibrin Barau of Kano North, emphasised the necessity for a robust educational system and the construction of more institutions for the training of teachers.

According to senator Barau, the proposed Federal University, if founded, would promote the advancement of education for all people, regardless of race or political belief.

Similarly, it would design and offer academic, technical, and professional programmes leading to the awarding of certificates, first degrees, postgraduate research, diplomas, and advanced degrees, with a concentration on planning, developmental, and adaptive abilities in Education.

The lawmaker stated that the institution will, among other things, revitalise the country’s deteriorating educational infrastructure and improve the country’s educational prospects.

All senators who participated in the debate on the measure supported it and gave it a resounding vote of approval for second reading when presented to voice voting by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

For further legislative action, the bill was forwarded to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND.
