Borno State Government Receives NUC’s Approval To Establish A New State University

Borno State Government has received approval from National University Commission to establish a new university in the state. The State Governor, Kasim Shettima received the letter of approval from theΒ Executive Secretary of NUC, Prof. Rasheed Abubakar, at the headquarters of the commission on Monday. Prof. Rasheed lauded the level of commitment the state government has shown towards ensuring that the educational reputation of the state is restored as the commission is satisfied with the take-off infrastructures put in place in the university. He however urged the state government to ensure the promotion of professionalism and excellence and shun mediocrity so as to ensure the success of the institution and enjoy the the support of NUC always. In his response, the Governor of Borno State, Kasim Shettima expressed his appreciation for the approval; stating that the new university will help in bridling the excesses of Boko Haram terrorists in the state. He further mentioned that his administration is planning to establish two more universities in the state by next year which will bring the total number of the universities in the state to ten (10). According to him, the new state university is expected to commence academic activities by January 2017.
