Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative National Essay Competition
The Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI) has announced a nationwide essay competition aimed at promoting artificial intelligence (AI) literacy and responsible technology use among students in tertiary institutions across Nigeria.
The competition is part of BBYDI’s AI Literacy for Everyday People in Nigeria project, supported by the Patrick J. McGovern Foundation. It seeks to encourage critical thinking and informed discussions on the role of AI in society, particularly within the Nigerian context.
Essay Topic: Participants are expected to write on the topic:
“Artificial Intelligence for Public Good: Balancing Innovation, Human Welfare, and Responsible Governance.”
Essays may approach the theme from any perspective but must be specific, well-researched, and grounded in Nigeria’s realities.
Submission Guidelines
- Word count: 1,200 – 1,500 words
- Language: English
- Font: Times New Roman
- Font size: 12pt
- Spacing: Double-spaced
AI Usage Policy
Participants are allowed to use AI tools to support research and idea development. However, the final submission must reflect the writer’s original voice, argument, and analysis. Essays that appear fully AI-generated without meaningful personal input will be disqualified.

- 1st Prize: ₦400,000
- 2nd Prize: ₦300,000
- 3rd Prize: ₦200,000
