UNICROSS Postpones 24th Matriculation Ceremony Indefinitely

The Management of the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) has announced the indefinite postponement of its 24th Matriculation Ceremony, which was originally scheduled to take place this week.

In a circular (No. 504) released on January 26, 2026, and signed by the University Registrar, Dr. Mrs. Catherine Ndifon Osai, the institution cited ongoing industrial unrest as the primary reason for the delay.

Original Schedule: The ceremony was set for Thursday, January 29, 2026 (Calabar Campus) and Friday, January 30, 2026 (Ogoja and Okuku Campuses).

Reason for Delay: The university management stated that the postponement is a direct result of the ongoing protest by the Joint Action Congress (JAC), which comprises the three non-teaching unions of the university.

Affected Parties: This notice applies to all staff, new students (2025/2026 academic session), and the general public.

The circular reads in part:

"The postponement is sequel to the ongoing protest by the Joint Action Congress (JAC) of the three non-teaching Unions of the University. A new date will be communicated in due course."

The university administration expressed regret for any inconveniences this sudden change may cause to students and their families who had already made preparations for the event.

Fresh students are advised to remain calm and await further directives from the university authorities regarding a new date. Academic activities and administrative updates will likely be influenced by the resolution of the JAC protest.
