BSU SUG issues clarification on medical screening for new students
The Students' Union Body of the Benue State University isΒ compelled to address a pressing matter that has been brought to our attention. There have been unfounded and false claims circulating online suggesting that a significant number of our new intake students have been diagnosed with HIV. We wish to categorically state that these claims are entirely baseless and without merit.
As part of our medical screening process for new students, our university clinic conducts tests for Hepatitis B&C, Blood Grouping, Genotype, and Chest X-ray examinations only. These screenings are designed to ensure the health and well-being of our students, and they do not include HIV testing.
We want to assure the public that our university clinic operates in strict adherence to medical ethics and confidentiality protocols. Any medical information pertaining to our students is treated with the utmost confidentiality and can only be disclosed to third parties with the explicit, signed consent of the individual concerned.
In light of this, we urge the general public, our students, and staff to disregard the false claims that have been circulating. Our university clinic is committed to maintaining a safe and trustworthy environment for Students and we will continue to uphold the highest standards of care and confidentiality in our medical services.
