BUK update on electricity load shedding during Ramadan
The Management of Bayero University Kano (BUK) has approved a revised electricity load shedding schedule for the holy month of Ramadan, covering both the New and Old Campuses.
According to a special bulletin released on Thursday, 19 February 2026, the adjustment is aimed at easing domestic and academic activities during the fasting period. As part of the arrangement, staff residential areas on both campuses will enjoy an additional one hour of power supply daily throughout Ramadan.
The schedule outlines specific power supply periods for academic areas, staff residential areas, student hostels, the university library, and essential facilities such as the University Clinic, Convocation Arena, DBS, and Twin Tank Water Station. The timetable will run from Mondays to Sundays for the duration of Ramadan.
Management also advised members of the university community to avoid the use of heavy electricity-consuming appliances such as hot plates and electric cookers, noting that such usage often leads to power surges and increased electricity costs.
Students, staff, and residents are urged to comply fully with the revised timetable and electricity usage guidelines to ensure stability of supply and cost efficiency during the Ramadan period.
The bulletin was signed by the Director of Public Affairs on behalf of the Registrar.
