BUK disclaims allegations against a former dean by a graduate of the institution
The Deanery of Student Affairs (DSA) at Bayero University, Kano, has issued a stern disclaimer following what it describes as a "character assassination" of its former Dean by a graduate of the institution.
In an official statement dated January 24, 2026, the University expressed dismay over a post made on the Facebook group "BUK Chat Zone." The post, allegedly authored by Abdulrahman Abdullateef, a graduate of the Geology department, targeted the former Dean of Student Affairs with defamatory remarks.
The current Dean, Professor Mukhtar Ridwanu Bunza, strongly defended his predecessor’s reputation, describing him as:
An incorruptible gentleman.
A dedicated leader characterized by hard work and selflessness.
A foundational figure whose tenure was extended multiple times due to his service record.
"The former Dean laid a foundation upon which I am building... Therefore, attack on his person is unacceptable," Professor Bunza stated.
The University emphasized that the institution’s commitment to its students remains firm, but reminded all alumni that the degrees they hold are predicated on both "character and learning." The Deanery issued a chilling reminder that the University maintains oversight of its graduates' conduct, noting that "there could be consequences even after graduation" for those who violate the institution's values.
While the Student Affairs Division has publicly condemned Mr. Abdullateef’s actions, the University administration is reportedly reviewing the matter to determine further official action.
The statement concluded with a traditional cautionary note: "A word is enough for the wise."
