BUK elects new SUG leadership

Bayero University Kano (BUK) recently concluded its 2026 Students' Union Government (SUG) elections, conducted entirely online on January 22, 2026. The process was widely praised for being free, fair, and transparent, with a total of 8,577 votes recorded across various positions.

The results, announced by the BUK-IEC Chairman Anwar Usman Hassan, confirmed the following executive winners

President: Abdulmudallib Kalli Sharif (4,153 votes

Vice President: Onono Rafatu Onimisi (3,871 votes

Secretary General: Hamisu Abdussamad Aliyu (4,825 votes

Assistant Secretary General: Hafsat Aliyu Said (4,658 votes

Treasurer: Olalekan John Bello (2,912 votes

Financial Secretary: Muhammed Ummulkhairi Abdullahi (3,548 votes

Sales Director: Saifullahi Nazango Ibrahim (2,452 votes

Welfare Director: Mahmud Hamim Ahmad (4,393 votes

Social Director: Mohammed Mukhtar (1,973 votes

Sports Director: Yahaya Yahaya Umar (3,195 votes

Food and Environmental Director: Salamat Onayi Muhammed (2,502 votes

Public Relations Officer: Inyasi Hamza (2,448 votes

In addition to the executive roles, 108 Faculty and Departmental Senators and Hall Representatives were also elected. The university management, including the Vice-Chancellor Professor Haruna Musa and the Dean of Students Affairs Professor Ridwan Mukhtar Bunza, congratulated the new leaders and commended the students for their peaceful and mature conduct during the democratic process.
