BUK issues warning to students against hostel racketeering

Andrew 2 weeks ago

The Management of the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has issued a stern warning against the unlawful practice of buying and selling hostel bed spaces for profit, as well as submitting false applications. These acts constitute hostel racketeering and are strictly prohibited.

Prohibited Acts:

Buying and selling hostel bed spaces for profit, thereby denying qualified students their rightful accommodation.

Allowing other students to use personal details to apply for hostels with the intent to later transfer the allocated space for a fee or favor.

Directives to Students:

Apply for hostel accommodation "only for yourself" using your own valid student details.

Do not pay or receive money for the transfer of a bed space.

Do not "hold" a bed space for another person under your name.

Report any person attempting to sell or buy a bed space to the Dean of Student Affairs or the Hostel Management Committee.

Consequences of Violation:

Any student found engaging in these practices shall face full disciplinary action, which may include:

Immediate revocation of hostel accommodation.

Suspension or expulsion from the university.

Referral to law enforcement agencies for criminal offenses such as fraud or economic sabotage.

Contact for Reporting:

Report cases to the Dean of Student Affairs or via email at [email protected].

Students should take note of this information and act accordingly.

Thank you!
