EKSU Student Union directs students to halt payment of late registration fee

The Ekiti State University Student Union (EKSU SU), under the leadership of "Team Versatility," has issued an urgent directive to all students to immediately halt the payment of the newly imposed ₦10,000 late registration fee.

​In an official memo dated January 24, 2026, the Union described the fee as an "unjust imposition" and a form of exploitation that ignores the current harsh economic realities facing students and their guardians.

​The Union’s President, Osunyomi Hezekiah Anjola, and General Secretary, Ojotu Olamipo Opemipo, emphasized that the success of this protest depends on total unity. The leadership urged all "Eksuites" to refrain from any portal transactions involving late fees, regardless of their personal ability to pay.

​"Paying this fee now not only undermines our bargaining power but also betrays fellow students who genuinely cannot afford the burden and face being forced out of their studies," the statement read.

​The Student Union outlined three primary reasons for the compulsory boycott:

​Force a Reversal: To pressure the university administration into a total reconsideration or reversal of the penalty.

​Collective Leverage: To gain the necessary bargaining power to negotiate with the school authorities.

​Registration Extension: To secure an official extension of the normal registration window without additional costs.

​The Union leadership appealed for calm and law-abiding behavior while maintaining a resolute stance. Students were encouraged to spread the message across all departmental and faculty platforms to ensure no one "breaks ranks."

​The memo concluded with a firm reminder: "An injury to one is an injury to all." Students are advised to keep their funds secure and wait for an official counter-directive before proceeding with any registration-related payments.
