FUAM ASUU embarks on strike action

Lecturers under the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi (FUAM) have begun an indefinite strike starting from April 8, 2026, due to the continued delay in the payment of their March salaries.

The decision was reached during an emergency congress held on the same day, where members agreed to completely withdraw their services until they are paid.

The branch chairman, Comrade Meshach Abari, stated that the action follows an earlier national directive which mandates strike action whenever salaries are delayed.

The union also expressed frustration over the university management’s failure to fully implement the approved salary structure and settle outstanding allowances, warning that this could lead to further unrest if not addressed quickly.

A monitoring committee has been set up to ensure all members comply with the strike, while lecturers have been advised not to engage in any activity that could weaken the action.
