FUDTSINMA issues Health advisory to the university community
The University Community is hereby informed that the current weather conditions across Nigeria, as reported by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), indicate increased temperatures and heat stress risk levels.
In view of this development, staff, students, and visitors are advised to take necessary precautions to safeguard their health and wellbeing.
The following preventive measures are strongly advised:
1. Drink adequate amounts of clean water regularly to prevent dehydration.
2. Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, especially between 12:00 noon and 4:00 pm.
3. Reduce strenuous outdoor activities during peak heat periods.
4. Wear light, loose-fitting clothing to enhance body cooling.
5. Ensure offices, lecture rooms, and workspaces are properly ventilated.
6. Staff and students are encouraged to take periodic rest breaks during outdoor duties or activities.
7. Persons with underlying health conditions, elderly individuals, pregnant women, and children should take extra precautions.
8. Drivers, security personnel, works department staff, and other outdoor workers are advised to monitor for symptoms of heat exhaustion such as dizziness, weakness, headache, excessive sweating, or fainting.
9. Members of the University Community are advised to report promptly to the University Health Services if they experience symptoms related to heat stress.
Departmental Heads and Unit Coordinators are encouraged to sensitize their staff and ensure compliance with these preventive measures.
