FUO Governing Council set to implement new FGN-ASUU salary structure for staff members
Fountain University, Osogbo, has taken a significant step toward strengthening staff welfare as its Governing Council approved the implementation of the new Federal Government–Academic Staff Union of Universities (FGN-ASUU) salary structure for staff members.
The decision was reached at the meeting of the Governing Council held on Thursday, March 26, 2026, under the leadership of the Chairman, Dr. Awa Ibraheem, and subsequently communicated to the University community by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Olayinka Ramota Karim.
Announcing the development, the Vice-Chancellor described the approval as a strategic and people-centered decision aimed at enhancing staff motivation, promoting equity, and aligning the University’s remuneration framework with prevailing national standards in the university system.
She noted that the implementation of the FGN-ASUU salary structure reflects the Council’s responsiveness to staff welfare concerns and its commitment to sustaining a productive and competitive academic environment.
“This decision underscores our collective resolve to prioritize the wellbeing of our staff, who remain the backbone of the University’s growth and success,” Prof. Karim stated. “It is also a demonstration of the Governing Council’s dedication to fairness, institutional stability, and long-term development.”
The Vice-Chancellor further emphasized that improved welfare conditions are critical to attracting and retaining quality personnel, particularly within the context of increasing competition in the higher education sector. She added that the move is expected to boost morale, enhance productivity, and further strengthen the University’s capacity to deliver on its mandate of academic excellence.
The Council, she noted, carefully considered the financial implications of the new salary structure and expressed confidence in the University’s ability to implement it sustainably through prudent resource management and strategic planning.
The decision marks another milestone in Fountain University’s ongoing efforts to build a supportive and enabling work environment, reinforcing its reputation as an institution that values excellence, fairness, and shared progress.
