FUOYE Lecturers Protest Following Non-Payment of Allowances

Staff of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, Ekiti State Yesterday protested against what they described as victimization and highhandedness by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Isaac Azuzu.

The aggrieved staff who blocked the Ado-Lokoja-Abuja federal highway as early as 7a.m and made bonfire are accusing the VC of non-payment of staff allowances and non-remittance of tax deducted from their salaries to the appropriate quarters.

According to Mr. Ojo Foluso, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission are yet to respond to the petition they sent in that regard.

Another staff who pleaded anonymity, commented as follows; β€œUnder normal circumstances, each senior staff ought to receive between N1.2m to N1.5 million as relocation allowance as introduced by the federal government in 2007. But we were only paid N252,000 in three installments when our agitations were becoming so deafening.

β€œTo end all these problems, we call on the university to implement the recommendations of the Prof Aganga-committee which stated that tax must no longer be based on consolidation but be worked based on basic salaries of all workers and the excess deductions must be refunded to all workers without delay.
