FUTMinna SUG bans students from Acting as Accommodation Agents
The Studentsβ Union Government (SUG) of the Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUT Minna) has officially prohibited students from acting as agents or middlemen in securing off-campus accommodation for their colleagues.
In a press release dated February 8, 2026, and signed by union executives, the directive was issued following numerous complaints of exploitation, inflated charges, and undue financial pressure on students by individuals posing as accommodation agents.
According to the union, the decision is aimed at safeguarding the welfare and financial interests of students. The SUG emphasized that the practice of students serving as intermediaries in accommodation arrangements has led to repeated cases of extortion and unfair dealings.
To address the situation, the union announced that verified contact details of lodge caretakers will be made available to students. Those in search of accommodation are strongly advised to communicate and transact directly with lodge caretakers or management, without involving any student intermediary.
The union further reiterated its commitment to fairness, transparency, and a safe living environment for all students. It urged students who experience intimidation, extortion, or any suspicious activities related to accommodation to report immediately to the Studentsβ Union for appropriate action.
The statement warned that any student found engaging in accommodation agency activities, acting as a middleman, or collecting money on behalf of lodge owners or caretakers will face disciplinary action from the university management.
Students have been advised to comply strictly with the new directive.
