GOMSU appoints Prof. Sani Ahmed Yauta as Substantive Vice-Chancellor

The Governing Council of the Gombe State University has approved the appointment of Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta as the substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Professor Yauta, a distinguished scholar and seasoned administrator, has been a dedicated member of the University community since 2006. He began his journey as a Graduate Assistant and rose to the rank of Professor of Educational Management and Finance. He is widely celebrated as a GSU-bred scholar, having contributed significantly to the institution's growth and development.

Throughout his career, Professor Yauta has served in several strategic positions. These include Programme Coordinator, Head of the Department of Educational Foundations, Deputy Dean and Dean of the Faculty of Education, Acting Director of the Directorate of General Studies, and the pioneer Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic). He also demonstrated leadership at the College of Education, Billiri, where he served as Deputy Provost. Prior to this appointment, he was serving as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Gombe State University.

An accomplished academic, Professor Yauta holds a Bachelor of Science in Education (Economics) from the University of Abuja and a Master of Education in Educational Administration and Planning from the University of Maiduguri. He also earned a Doctorate in Higher Education Management and Finance from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka. His academic record includes more than 30 peer-reviewed journal articles, eight book chapters, and over 10 conference presentations. He has successfully supervised numerous postgraduate theses and dissertations.

Professor Yauta is actively involved in several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Association of Educational Planners and Administration, the Commonwealth Council for Educational Administration and Management, and the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria. Nationally, he has contributed his expertise as a Chief External Examiner with the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board.

He brings to this new role a blend of academic excellence, administrative competence, and strong community leadership.

The Governing Council is confident that his appointment will further strengthen the University’s growth, academic performance, and service to society.
