UNILAG guidelines on proper rendition of the National Anthem and Pledge

Benjamin β€’ 6 months ago

Members of the University community are hereby reminded of theΒ guidelines on the proper rendition and usage of the Nigerian National Anthem at official and public eventsΒ issued by the National Orientation Agency (NOA) .

In line with the guidelines, the following keypoints are to be noted and observed at University functions and gatherings:

  1. Only the first stanza of the Nigerian National Anthem should be sung or recited. The full anthem comprising all three (3) stanzas should not be sung or recited except during special national occasions such as:
  • Independence Day celebration
  • Inauguration (swearing-in) of the President
  • Armed Forces Remembrance Day
  • Democracy Day (June 12)
  • Inauguration of the National Assembly, and similar significant national events.

2. The third stanza of the National Anthem should be recited as the National Prayer at the beginning of an event.

3. The National Pledge is to be recited at the end of every official event.

Members of the University community are encouraged to observe these guidelines as part of collective efforts to uphold national values and symbols with due respect and decorum.
