Hisbah summons Islamic school teacher for impregnating a student

A Kano-based Islamic teacher has been summoned by the State's Hisbah Board after complaints were lodged that he impregnated a student and sexually assaulted many others under his tutorship.

The teacher who is the son of a late renowned Islamic cleric and the school owner was said to have earlier impregnated one of his students in the same school and was forced to marry her.

The commandant of the Hisbah board, Sheikh Harun Ibn-Sina, during a radio interview revealed that the teacher in collaboration with his wife, whom he had married after impregnating, used their matrimonial home for the acts. He was accused of deceiving his students in the name of love and defiling many others.

He added that after inviting the teacher, he revealed information that proved the allegations against him, and that further investigation had commenced into the matter. He pledged that they would reveal to the public whatever action they took against the suspect.

Reacting to the news, another Islamic cleric in Kano, Sulaiman Abubakar Sulaiman, cautioned parents against allowing their children to stay longer after school hours and that they should always check their relationships with their teachers.
