As an integrated member of the ICRC Global Cyber Hub in Luxembourg, the Associate will support the Hub’s internal and external engagement objectives. The position sits at the intersect of event management, public communication, internal communication and policy; it underpins ICRC work in cyber R&D and cyber affairs. The aim is to bridge gaps between the tech and humanitarian sector, while also positioning the work of the ICRC in its respective domains including ICRC as a global organization that operates in places of conflict.

Accountabilities & responsibilities

The Associate will be working closely with and supporting a team of policy and communication advisers and technologists, under the supervision of the Head of Humanitarian Affairs, in relation to a number of tasks, including:

  • Event management: Primary focus is to support the execution of the 2026 Symposium in Luxembourg including contributions on substantive documents, identifying and engaging with experts and attendees, event management logistics and marketing, support in drafting the outcome report.
  • Research and Analysis: Conducting research on tech issues impacting the humanitarian sector, analyzing data and preparing reports, including sources on local and global news.
  • Policy & Communication: Contributions to reports and articles, social media content development, and contribution to a diverse portfolio of communication materials targeting internal and external stakeholders to socialize and raise awareness of the ICRC work in tech and cyber with a specific focus on the Global Cyber Hub workstream, and support representation at conferences/forums where humanitarian use of technologies or impact of digital technologies in humanitarian conflict/crisis settings is represented.

  • Understands and adheres to the ICRC Code of Conduct
  • Understands the roles of the components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
  • Respects and observes staff regulations and security rules at all times
  • Represents the ICRC in a professional manner at all times
  • Develops and maintains a pleasant and conducive working environment with colleagues and line managers
  • Performs all duties with the highest level of confidentiality in the interest of the employees and the ICRC
  • May be asked to perform tasks not covered in this job description and to provide support to other departments, when necessary

Requirements for ICRC Trainee Program Qualification

  • Completed university degree in Communications, International Relations, Political Science, Public Policy, Humanitarian Affairs or another relevant field.
  • Up to 1 year of relevant professional experience after graduation; previous internships/traineeships are an asset.
  • Strong interest in technology, cyber issues and humanitarian action.
  • Strong drafting, research and organizational skills.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
