Requirements for Kay Mason Foundation Scholarship for South Africans Qualification
To apply, you must:
- Be in grade 6 this year
- Be a South African Citizen
- Be between the ages of 10 and 13 years old
- Be hardworking learner, who shows leadership potential and who is committed to his/her academics.
- Reside in Cape Town / Northern Suburbs / Southern Suburbs and be close enough to travel to our offices in Bellville.
- Your total household income must not exceed R17 500 per month

Scholarship Award Process
Application Screening:
- All applications will be carefully screened. Testing will be arranged for learners who meet the required criteria.
- Please ensure the contact details provided are accurate and up to date.
Selection and Support Program:
- After testing is completed, successful learners will advance to the next phase and join the Selection and Support Program.
- Learners in this program will be required to attend various assessments at our offices in Bellville
- Please note: Participation in the Selection and Support Program does not guarantee a scholarship.
Scholarship Award and Preparation Program:
- Scholarships will be awarded early in 2027
- Successful learners will then join the Senior Scholar Preparation Program.
Documents Required for Application
Important Instructions for Completing this Application Form
Before completing this application form, please ensure that all required supporting documents have been scanned and prepared for upload.
Please note: Applications with missing documents will be immediately disqualified.
Document Preparation Guidelines: Scan documents from different sections separately (e.g., ID on its own, reports separately, birth certificate on its own, etc.).
Required Documents:
1. Grade 5 Term 4 report.
2. Grade 6 Term 1 report.
3. Learner’s birth certificate.
4. Parent(s) / legal guardian(s) identity documents.
5. Death certificate(s), if applicable.
6. Proof of income:
- For employed individuals: Provide the three most recent salary slips, three years’ IRP5s, and a copy of the employment contract for both parent(s)/legal guardian(s).
- For business owners: Submit three years’ business tax returns and three years’ IRP5s if you receive a salary.
- For unemployed individuals: Provide an affidavit stating the reason and duration of unemployment. If you receive SASSA grants, include a letter from SASSA confirming all grants received for all family members in the household. If you have a disability or are unable to work, provide proof of the disability. If retrenched, submit retrenchment and UIF letters.
- For pensioners: Submit three months’ pension statements, three months’ salary slips, or three years’ IRP5s.
- For maintenance recipients: Provide a court order as proof of maintenance under income.
7. If you don't have any of the above proof of income, then provide three months' bank statements for both parent(s)/legal guardian(s).
8. Task for the Learner: Write an essay, in your own handwriting, about your family, your living conditions and your community.
Important Notice: Failure to submit any required documentation will result in disqualification of your application.
