The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has officially granted accreditation to the preclinical programme of Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete. This milestone marks a significant step forward for the institution's medical wing.

The announcement was made by the team lead and Deputy Registrar of the MDCN, Dr. Nnaemeka Nwakama, during an exit briefing held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at the KWASU Business School in Ilorin.

During the briefing, the accreditation team highlighted the strong synergy and camaraderie existing between Kwara State University, Malete, and the Kwara State University Teaching Hospital. Dr. Nwakama emphasized that while medical programmes are resource-intensive, consistent investment is vital for the school to sustain its status as a recognized center of excellence.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, conveyed the appreciation of Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq (CON). She noted that the MDCN’s report validates the state's efforts in sanctifying the medical profession and fostering the growth of medical education.

Responding to the news, the Vice-Chancellor of KWASU, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, expressed immense pride in the result. He pledged the university's commitment to addressing all noted areas for improvement to ensure continued academic rigor.

With this preclinical accreditation secured, 300-level Medicine and Surgery students at KWASU are now cleared to proceed to their clinical years. This transition follows the successful completion of their first professional examinations.
