LASU Prohibits Illegal POS Operations, Hawking on Campus
The University Management has observed with concern the increasing rate of unauthorised Point of Sale (POS) operations and indiscriminate hawking activities within the campus environment. Reports indicate that several individuals, mainly students, have converted different locations within the University into informal trading points.
These activities have become prevalent around the Iba Gate Road, PPL Gate axis, AP Filling Station/VIO Road, classroom environments, and event centres. While some individuals are engaged solely in POS transactions, others combine such activities with the sale of consumables and other items.
Management notes that this development constitutes serious environmental and security concerns, causes congestion, obstructs movement in critical areas, and undermines the standard expected of a world-class university.
It is imperative to state that enforcement operations have commenced, and some POS machines and goods belonging to violators have already been confiscated as part of efforts to restore orderliness and compliance on campus.
Consequently, the Vice-Chancellor has approved the following directives:
1. All unauthorised POS operations and hawking activities on campus are strictly prohibited.
2. No individual is permitted to display POS services or hawk goods anywhere on campus except at officially designated market locations within the various faculties and centres.
3. The display or sale of goods along classroom corridors, office environments, and within classroom vicinities is strictly banned.
4. All approved vendors must close their businesses by 6:00 p.m. daily. Any vendor found operating beyond the approved time will be penalised accordingly.
5. Any individual or vendor who violates these directives shall have his/her goods confiscated and be required to pay fines before such items are released, in addition to any other disciplinary measures as may be determined by the Management.
Members of the University community are therefore advised to desist from engaging in, encouraging, or patronising such unauthorised activities, as the Security Unit will continue strict enforcement of these regulations.
The University Management remains committed to ensuring a safe, orderly, and conducive environment for teaching, learning, and research.
