LAUTECH mourns six final year nursing students killed in crash
The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has announced the tragic death of six final-year students of its Open and Distance Learning (ODL) Nursing programme.
In a special release issued on Tuesday, the institution confirmed that the students lost their lives in a ghastly motor accident on the Ilorin-Ogbomoso Road on Sunday, 22nd February 2026. The victims were travelling in a public bus from Suleja, Niger State, heading to the university for their final examinations when the crash occurred at Otte, Kwara State.
The deceased have been identified as Shehu Nana Firdawsi Hamza, Idris Jamila, Abdulraheem Maimunah Hamza, Blessing Kewwe, Owoicho Elizabeth, and Aroke Ozavize Victoria. All were in their final year and were described by the university as determined and resilient students who embodied the spirit of hope and progress.
The university’s Registrar, Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun, expressed profound grief on behalf of the management, extending heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
“This devastating incident has left our entire academic community in mourning,” the statement read. “The University stands in solidarity with them during this time of immeasurable grief.”
LAUTECH also called on the public to join in prayers for the families to find fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
