MAPOLY notice on mandatory 70% minimum lecture attendance policy
I write to convey the decision of Management at its meeting held on Thursday, 9th April, 2026, regarding the enforcement of students' attendance policy in the Polytechnic.
Management considered the proposal to enforce a minimum of 70% lecture attendance for all students, in line with Section 3.4.0l of the Students Handbook. The Committee noted with concern the poor attendance of students at lectures, which has adversely affected academic performance across Departments. It therefore directs and approved as follows:
a) A minimum of 70% attendance is mandatory for all full-time students in every course, while a minimum of 50% attendance is required for all part-time students.
b) Any student who fails to meet this requirement shall not be allowed to sit for the semester examination in the affected course(s).
Departments are directed to enforce and keep adequate record of student attendance in tune with the directive of Management.
All Heads of Department are hereby directed as follows:
1. To communicate this policy to all academic staff and students in their Departments.
2. To ensure strict compliance with the attendance by students.
3. To keep accurate attendance records for monitoring and verification.
Please note that this policy takes immediate effect and compliance is mandatory.
Thank you.
