In a major move to sanitize student housing, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has officially constituted the SUG Presidential Hostel Task Force.

The announcement, released via a Special Bulletin on February 1, 2026, comes under the leadership of Comrade Shariff Abdulmalik Toro. The initiative aims to address long-standing irregularities, including the abuse of power and unfairness in the hostel allocation process.

The newly formed Task Force is charged with a rigorous set of responsibilities to ensure every "Balewite" has a fair shot at accommodation. Their primary objectives include:

Investigation: Probing cases of misappropriation, racketeering, and illegal hostel management.

Student Protection: Shielding students from intimidation, extortion, and victimization within the system.

Process Monitoring: Overseeing hostel booking and allocation to ensure strict adherence to approved guidelines.

Identification of Fraud: Exposing "ghost occupants," multiple allocations to single individuals, and illegal occupancy.

Reporting: Submitting comprehensive findings and disciplinary recommendations directly to the SUG President.

The committee features a diverse representation of students from various academic disciplines:

Usman Zubairu – Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

Mubarak Muhammad – Faculty of Science

Amine Msughter Aaron – Faculty of Science

Adamu Isa – Faculty of Management Science

Al-Amin Muhammad – Faculty of Science

Ya’kub Ya’kub AbokinSarki – Faculty of Engineering & Engineering Tech.

Peter Salama – Faculty of Environmental Tech.

Timeline and Student Cooperation

The Task Force will operate as an ad-hoc committee and is expected to submit its final report to the SUG Executive Council within two weeks of its inauguration.

The SUG leadership has issued a call to all students to cooperate fully by providing truthful information. The bulletin assures that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality, and any form of retaliation against cooperating students will not be tolerated.

The bulletin was officially signed by Abdullahi Hussaini Sanka (Secretary General) and published by Umar Faruk Adam (P.R.O. I) on behalf of the SUG President.
