ATBU SUG notice to students regarding approved bike fares within the campus
The Students' Union Government (SUG) of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) has issued a "Special Bulletin" addressing growing concerns over the illegal hike in transportation costs within the university community.
In an official notice dated February 3, 2026, the SUG leadership, under President Sharrif Abdulmalik Toro, confirmed receiving reports that several commercial bike riders are charging students fares well above the officially approved rates previously agreed upon by the Bike Riders Union and the SUG Sales Committee.
To combat these unauthorized charges, the SUG has directed all students to take the following proactive measures when they encounter overcharging:
Identify the Rider: Carefully note the bike rider’s identification number.
Gather Evidence: Where possible, take a clear photograph or a short video of the rider/bike as proof.
Pay Only Approved Fares: Students are urged to stand their ground and pay only the rates officially sanctioned by the union.
The SUG emphasizes that verifiable proof is essential to prevent denials during negotiations with the Bike Riders Union. All complaints, including bike numbers and media evidence, should be forwarded immediately to the official hotline:
📞 Official Hotline: 0703 577 1010
The bulletin serves as a stern reminder to all commercial bike operators within the university environment to strictly adhere to the approved fare structure. The union reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and interests of all "Balewites" against exploitation.
