Nigerian law school places ban on law graduates of North American Uni, Houdegbe

The Nigerian law school has maintained its stance on the ban of Law graduates of Houdegbe North American University, Cotonou, Benin Republic from being admitted into its Law School.

The ban which has been in effect since 2015, was placed on the school after the Council of Legal Education discovered that the university had no approval from the regulatory authority in that country to run a law program until 2016. The university was also accused of offering a branch of law courses it was domiciled on, with 100% of its students being Nigerians and the lecturers being Nigerians from faculties of law, in the South West region of Nigeria, teaching on a part-time basis.

It says Houdegbe North American University, just like most universities in the West African sub-region, is substandard and targets Nigerian students for commercial or monetary gains only.

The council resolved to sustain the ban during a meeting held on Friday, 15 January following an appeal by affected graduates of the university on November 25, 2020.

The council further advised parents and students to take a comprehensive appraisal of the choice of institutions they want to enroll in, to avoid disappointment.
