Northwest University addresses the issue of accessibility to upper floors at City Campus
The attention of the Management of Northwest University Kano has been drawn to a recent complaint circulating on social media by one of our students, Aminu Ja'afar Muhammad (Alamein), a Level 300 student of the Faculty of Computing, regarding the difficulty faced in accessing lecture halls located on the upper floors of the City Campus at Gidan Ado Bayero, Kofar Nassarawa, Kano State.
The University Management acknowledges the concerns raised, particularly the challenges encountered by students with special needs due to the temporary non-functionality of the elevators (lifts) in the building. The University also appreciates the remarkable spirit of solidarity demonstrated by the students who have continued to support their colleague during this challenging period.
The general public and the university community are hereby informed that the Kano State Government under the leadership of the Executive Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has already commenced work on the installation and rehabilitation of the elevators at the City Campus. The installation of one of the lifts has reached about 80% completion and is expected to be fully completed and operational soon. Work on the other lift is also ongoing.
The University Management, therefore, calls on students, staff, and the general public to remain calm and patient, as the ongoing efforts by the Government and relevant authorities are aimed at ensuring that the situation is resolved as quickly as possible.
The Management remains committed to the welfare, inclusiveness, and academic success of all students, including persons with special needs, and assures that necessary steps are being taken to ensure that the university environment is more accessible and conducive for learning.
Thank you.
