NUC Abolishes Sub-degree Diploma Programmes In Nigerian University System
Admission into sub-degree diploma programmes in the Nigerian university system has been abolished by the National Universities Commission, NUC.
This was disclosed by NUCβs Deputy Director of Information, Mrs Adebukola Olatunji, in Abuja in a statement on Monday.
According to him, this was part of decisions taking during the meeting of the NUCβs Executive Secretary Prof. Abubakar Rasheed, and Vice Chancellor of Federal, State and Private universities in the country where the Executive Secretary reminded the Vice Chancellors that Universities has no business awarding sub-degree diplomas to students in the first place as it was meant for polytechnics to do and such diplomas awarded by universities will not be recognized during employment or promotion of workers in the public service.
He urged them that instead of channeling resources towards funding diploma programmes, universities should focus on production of effective manpower that will drive the economy.
With this development, universities have been directed to commence the process of winding downΒ sub-degree diplomas.
