OGITECH management condemns Police brutality against students, calls for justice

The Management of the Ogun State Institute of Technology (0GITECH), Igbesa, condemns in the strongest possible terms, the unwarranted acts of brutality meted out to our students including the Student Union President by police officers on the night of Tuesday, 12th May 2026.

We are deeply disturbed by this incident. No student should be subjected to violence, intimidation, or physical abuse. The safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of every member of the OGITECH Community are non-negotiable.

Therefore, let it be stated clearly that OGITECH Management is tired of the incessant harassment and brutality of our students by certain officers of the Nigeria Police Force. This recurring pattern of intimidation is unacceptable and must end immediately. Our students are citizens and learners; they are not targets for aggression and intimidation.

Immediate Actions Taken

In response to this grave violation, the Management ably led by Dr. Abiodun Oluseye, has initiated the following steps:

High-Level Escalation: The matter has been reported directly to the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command. The Commissioner has assured Management of a full, impartial investigation, and has given a firm commitment that any officer found culpable would face the full weight of the law.

Medical & Psychosocial Care: The affected students are currently receiving comprehensive medical attention and psychosocial support facilitated by the Institute to ensure their physical and emotional recovery.

A Call for Calm

While we understand the anger and frustration this incident has caused, we appeal to the entire student body for calm and restraint. The Management is actively pursuing justice through the proper legal and administrative channels. We will not relent until full accountability is achieved.

Students are therefore, advised to continue their academic activities, as the Management is in constant touch with the relevant authorities to ensure the security of all students, both on and off-campus.

We reaffirm our zero-tolerance stance on brutality and the abuse of power. We will continue to provide updates as developments unfold.
