OOU SUG announces temporary transport fare increase at Ago-Iwoye Campus

Amara 1 month ago

We wish to formally inform all students of recent developments concerning the campus transportation. Following the continuous rise in fuel prices nationwide, representatives of the campus bus drivers approached the Union last week to request an upward review of transport fares. In response, the Union engaged in a series of deliberations with relevant stakeholders to address the situation while prioritizing student welfare.

At the most recent meeting held with members of the Central Executive Council (CEC) and SHS representatives, discussions were extensive but did not reach a final consensus. While the drivers proposed a general increase of # 200 across all routes, the Union, after careful consideration, presented a counter proposal of #50. This proposal includes a binding agreement that fares will revert to the previous rates once fuel prices stabilize.

In light of the foregoing, the following resolutions have been reached:

• An increment of #50 across all routes will take effect from Tuesday, 24th March 2026.

• Measures have been implemented to ensure the adequate availability of buses and drivers across all campuses.

• Students are strongly advised to go out with exact change to avoid unnecessary disputes or delays

• Any driver found charging above the approved fare should be reported immediately, Kindly take a clear picture of the vehicle plate number and forward it to any Union Executive.

This decision was reached after careful deliberation and was not made lightly. We fully empathise with the financial strain this may place on students; however, the current economic realities necessitate temporary adjustment.

The Students' Union remains firm in his committed to protecting students' interests and will continue to engage all parties to ensure fairness, accountability, and a swift return to previous fare rates once conditions improve.

This is the FELE-led administration, and we remain committed to serving you.
