NTI Boss Says PhD Holders can Teach in Primary Schools

National Teachers Institute, NTI boss says nothing is wrong in having a PhD holder being a primary school teacher.

Director-General/Chief Executive Officer, National Teachers Institute, NTI, Kaduna, Dr. Aminu Ladan Sharehu has said there was nothing wrong for a doctoral degree holder to take teaching appointment in a primary school.

He said teaching profession in an ideal society was for well qualified individuals who are knowledgeable and skillful in their various fields.

He made the observation at a pre-convocation press conference in Kaduna last week.

According to him, a holder of NCE teaching in primary school should be from time to time upgrade himself on the job by going for further training to acquire higher certificates. “Or what is wrong in having a PhD holder being a primary school teacher?” he asked rhetorically.

Meanwhile, a total of 56,232 students from the last two academic sessions graduated from the institute last weekend.

The school also conferred highest honorary fellowship award on Emir of Zazzau, Dr. Shehu Idris and Prof. M.O Eboyi at the event.

While noting that all the new graduates were thoroughly baked, Ladan said the award recipients were honoured based on their strong contributions to the education development in the country.

He noted that the institute had introduced centres for teachers training in English as well as technical entrepreneurship and special education for all categories of persons.

All these, according to him, are aimed at improving teachers’ capacity in their service delivery. (National Mirror)
