A STUDY OF SELECT AKBC PROGRAMMES AND CHARACTER MOULDING AMONGST YOUTH
CHAPTER ONE
INTRODUCTION
BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
The influence of media on the development of youth has long been a subject of academic inquiry and societal concern. Television programs, in particular, have the power to shape beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors, making them a significant factor in character molding. The Anyang Kwang Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC), a prominent broadcasting corporation, has been a leading source of entertainment and information for the youth demographic in recent years. This study aims to examine the impact of select AKBC programs on character molding among youth.
The AKBC has established itself as a key player in the media landscape, producing a diverse range of programs that cater to the interests and preferences of young viewers. These programs encompass various genres, including dramas, reality shows, talk shows, and educational content, providing ample opportunities for the dissemination of moral values and virtues. By analyzing the content and examining its influence on character development, this study seeks to uncover the potential of AKBC programs to mold the character of youth viewers.
The research will employ a comprehensive approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Initially, a content analysis will be conducted on a selection of AKBC programs to identify recurring themes, moral lessons, and the portrayal of role models. This analysis will provide insights into the values and virtues propagated through the programming, helping to establish a framework for character molding.
Subsequently, a survey questionnaire will be administered to a sample of youth participants who regularly engage with AKBC programs. The questionnaire will explore their perceptions of the influence of these programs on their character development, examining factors such as the effectiveness of role models, the portrayal of ethical dilemmas, and the impact of narrative storytelling in imparting moral lessons. The data collected will be analyzed to identify patterns, trends, and correlations between program preferences and character attributes.
By studying the relationship between select AKBC programs and character molding among youth, this research aims to contribute to the existing body of
