CHALLENGES OF COMPUTER APPLICATION TO ACCOUNTING PROFESSION (A CASE STUDY OF THE FEDERAL POLYTECHNIC BIDA)
 
ABSTRACT
The study was aimed at finding out the challenges of computer in accounting profession with reference to Federal Polytechnic Bida. Attempt is also made in the study through (secondary data) to highlight the concept of computerized accounting, the challenges facing accounting profession, the historical background of Federal Polytechnic Bida, historical development of accounting profession and roles and needs of computerized accounting. The researcher adopted primary source of data to present and analysis, the information of the study. The researcher discovered amongst others that computer has a significance contribution to accounting profession. On this research the researcher was able to identify the challenges of computer application to accounting, to highlight the important of computer and its relevance to accounting, from the objectives this question was asked; how important is computer literacy to accounting profession and what hardware and software application are needed in accounting. Therefore, the researcher discovered areas which other accounting professionals are suffering a great deal of old method and machines used in accounting which makes the growth very sluggish, lack of skills and knowledge of computer in the organization and inadequate computer hardware and other software in preparation of account which result to major problem application of computer. The researcher recommends among others, the seminar band workshop should be organized to highlight the accounting profession on how to use computer application software, computer application skills of accountant will need in the future to perform their task effectively.
