INFLUENCE OF MODERN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY DEVICES USAGE ON FAMILY INTERACTION
Β
Abstract
This study was designed to examine the Influence of Modern Information Technology (MIT) Devices Usage on Family Interaction in Adamawa State. In this study, six objectives were raised and six research questions were answered, four null hypotheses were formulated. Survey research design was adopted. Population for the study was 6,108 staff and their children in tertiary institutions. A purposive sampling technique was used with a sample frame of five hundred (500) adults (parents) and children. In one hundred and twenty five (125) households. The instrument used for data collection was questionnaire. The data collected were statistically analyzed using frequencies and percentages for the demographic data, mean and standard deviation for the research questions while Pearson Product Moment Correlation (PPMC) statistics was used to measure the significant relationship between the variables. The four null hypotheses were statistically tested at a significant level of 0.05 and it was observed that all four null hypotheses were rejected. This revealed that significant relationships existed between the influence of Modern Information Technology devices and family interactions and parentsβ action towards socialization of their children. The findings revealed that MIT devices usage could positively influence interaction among family members, they could also influence family togetherness, communication, as well as how parents socialize their children positively despite the presence of these devices in their homes. To summarise all these, both research questions and hypotheses showed that significant relationship exist between each of these variables and the use of modern information technology devices by the family members. Based on the findings, it was recommended that MIT devices should be found in every home, in order to encourage family time together and improve communication between members
