ROLE OF TELEVISION IN NATIONAL DEVELOPMENT
ABSTRACT
The study examined the role of mass media in national development with a focus on NTA and FRCN. It is a known fact thattelevision is one of the engines that propel the social and national development for its continuity and realization through; Information enlightenment, entertainment and education. There is no doubt that radio and television remains a powerful tool for social change in any society. Quantitative research design was used in which cross-sectional survey method was adopted while the data collection instrument was questionnaire. A critical review to related literature were made with relevant theory that was used to gratify the study is uses and gratification theory. Findings of the study showed that radio and television are the most variable medium of communication in developing a society. Finally, it is therefore recommended that the government should provide a powerful transmitter that will be able to carry messages to the audience in a clear and audible manner
