Rheumatism can significantly impact an individual's quality of life and can lead to disability, decreased productivity, and increased healthcare costs. While medications can be effective in managing the symptoms of rheumatism, they can also be associated with significant side effects and can be costly. Exercise has been shown to be an effective management strategy for rheumatism, as it can help to maintain joint flexibility, strengthen muscles, and improve overall physical function. Despite the benefits of exercise, many individuals with rheumatism are hesitant to engage in physical activity due to fears of exacerbating symptoms or causing further joint damage.
To date, there is a lack of consensus regarding the specific types, intensity, and duration of exercise that are most effective for improving outcomes in individuals with rheumatism. Additionally, the mechanisms by which exercise impacts rheumatic disease progression and symptom management are not fully understood.
